I’m still airing out from Sunday night’s “limited public forum” at the local high school with Un-Representative Mike Lawler. But he never stops, so we can’t either.
If you really want to know who Mike Lawler is, spend a few days following his two feeds on X (the favored social media platform of Elon Musk’s spawn). I know it’s not an appealing prospect. But the X-Files provide the clearest picture of the two faces of Lawler: Moderate Mike and MAGA Mike.
Moderate Mike posts as Congressman Mike Lawler. There you’ll find a stream of pictures of local parades and award ceremonies that his staff was “proud” to attend, along with video clips of his speeches in the House. He was especially proud and excited yesterday to hold the big gavel and sit in the big chair:
MAGA Mike uses a different address on X to deliver the red meat. An address that links to lawlerforcongress.com, where you’ll be greeted by the banner: LET’S KEEP NY-17 RED.

The theme here is clear. You’ll never see a word from Mike about how Trump campaigned on deporting the hardened criminals and gang members, but now masked men in civilian clothes are whisking away international students who write offensive op-eds; armed ICE agents are storming nail salons to manhandle residents who have been working and paying taxes here for years, committing no crimes.
And of course he’s misrepresenting what happened at the town hall, where I wasn’t even allowed to bring in a pen to take notes. That crowd did not support spitting on ICE agents. We were outraged at Trump’s taking advantage of local protests to militarize the streets against the wishes of local leaders and law enforcement.
It is truly a short path from where we are to martial law. Trump, supported by chameleons like Lawler, will fan the flames by arresting the easy targets, peaceful law-abiding tax-paying immigrants, dragging them from their families without warning. He will bait the desperate and powerless to spit into the wind, with cameras at the ready to zoom in on the violence and feed the FOX, and the tanks will roll.
It was chilling to watch Trump speak at Fort Bragg yesterday, spouting lies while the troops booed Biden and Governor Newsom. And to hear Trump threatening that any protesters at his Big Beautiful Parade on Saturday will be “met with heavy force,” peaceful or not.
Meanwhile, MAGA Mike is outraged about a desperate and powerless immigrant spitting in the face of an ICE agent. Zooming in on a local criminal lighting fire to an electric car to suggest that the entire city is on fire and the L.A. Police can’t handle it. Stoking fear to harden power.
The flames are spreading and the tanks are rolling. Mike Lawler continues to inflame and march on command.
