Little League Lowdown

Every Friday, Mike Lawler posts his “Legislative Lowdown” for the week via YouTube video. It’s a chance to watch Mike tout his anodyne activity on Capitol Hill. Think of it as his version of 5 things I did this week. Each episode is a masterpiece of distraction, misdirection and irrelevance.

Not this week. This week’s special edition of the lowdown was devoted to one scintillating topic — discharge petitions. Why? Because Mike Lawler took a bold stand against House leadership. I covered this in last Wednesday’s post.

In short, Mike wants you to know that he’s fighting for the ability of individual members in the House to be “a check and balance on House leadership.” In this case, to allow proxy voting for House members who are new parents, which House Majority Leader Mike Johnson opposes. But Donald Trump supports, so Mike feels emboldened. Bold enough to angrily declare “bullsh*t” to his GOP critics. Oh my.

Now, he says, they can move on to passing critical legislation this week “that strengthens trust in our elections and tackles judicial overreach.” Read that as “makes it harder to vote legally and harder to stop Trump’s executive orders.”

I guess Liberation Day, Trump’s tariffs and the biggest 2-day wipeout in stock market history didn’t warrant any mention. Especially since Lawler voted to give Trump complete discretion on tariffs. To give a single man the power to take down the global economy. After all, Mike is all about preserving checks and balances.

Also on Friday, Mike Lawler posted this critical alert:

Little League, indeed.
